Monday Motivation: Psalm 10

Psalm 10  (NIV)

Why, Lord, do you stand far off?
   Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?

In his arrogance the wicked man hunts down the weak,
    who are caught in the schemes he devises.
He boasts about the cravings of his heart;
    he blesses the greedy and reviles the Lord.
In his pride the wicked man does not seek him;
    in all his thoughts there is no room for God.
His ways are always prosperous;
    your laws are rejected by him;
    he sneers at all his enemies.
He says to himself, “Nothing will ever shake me.”
    He swears, “No one will ever do me harm.”

His mouth is full of lies and threats;
    trouble and evil are under his tongue.
He lies in wait near the villages;
    from ambush he murders the innocent.
His eyes watch in secret for his victims;
    like a lion in cover he lies in wait.
He lies in wait to catch the helpless;
    he catches the helpless and drags them off in his net.
His victims are crushed, they collapse;
    they fall under his strength.
He says to himself, “God will never notice;
    he covers his face and never sees.”

Arise, Lord! Lift up your hand, O God.
    Do not forget the helpless.
Why does the wicked man revile God?
    Why does he say to himself,
    “He won’t call me to account”?
 But you, God, see the trouble of the afflicted;
    you consider their grief and take it in hand.
The victims commit themselves to you;
    you are the helper of the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked man;
    call the evildoer to account for his wickedness
    that would not otherwise be found out.

The Lord is King for ever and ever;
    the nations will perish from his land.
You, Lord, hear the desire of the afflicted;
    you encourage them, and you listen to their cry,
defending the fatherless and the oppressed,
    so that mere earthly mortals
    will never again strike terror.

Monday Motivation:

My three year old discovered pop rockets over the Fourth of July! He thought he was big and bad with those little pops so when my husband started the big fireworks, he instantly pushed away from me towards the action.  He thought he could handle it on his own until a few bottle rockets hissed aimlessly through the air. He immediately become startled and ran back to Momma for cover. There was no doubt in his little mind. He knew he could find me right where he left me, arms outstretched and ready to pick him up. Every. Single. Time.

Have you ever felt as though each and every moment of your life is filled with a stressful new hurtle to jump? All of us go through seasons of life where it seems as though it is just one dilemma after another. Perhaps your workload is overbearing while your are living pay check to paycheck which is added to the fact you’ve had a death in the family. Tack on a fender bender, a sick child and along with about twenty massive deadlines to meet. This is the perfect time for the HVAC to go out! It feels as though you can barely breathe and it takes everything you can muster just to keep your head above water. It’s as though all the bottle rockets you just lit went hissing in twenty different directions. POP POP POP !!!

In those times, we can be so completely consumed by our obstacles. We start out by walking towards the action thinking that we are big and bad enough to handle it only to become startled by the blasts.  We are left feeling scared, broken, beaten and lost. All this time we didn’t notice God noticing us.

You see, God does not stand so far off. He is not hiding in our times of trouble. God is right behind us where He’ s always been. His arms are outstretched and ready to pick us up just like He always does.

Every. Single. Time.

Keep your eyes open for Him until we meet again.
